They say that the month of March is “in like a lion, out like a lamb.” When it starts, things are cold, wet, and likely covered in snow; you’re sick of winter and longing for warmer, brighter days. But the first day of spring arrives on March 19th. And when the month ends, the promise of warmth is finally in sight. In the spirit of giving spring a fighting chance to blossom, this month’s sock of the month club design features boxing kangaroos.

Australia socks

This year, Say it with a Sock is taking you on a trip around the world with socks. Every month, we’ll be sending our men’s sock of the month club and women’s sock of the month club subscribers a brand-new pair inspired by some of our favorite countries around the world. Last month, we traveled to Bel Paese, a.k.a. the boot-shaped country, a.k.a. the pizza capital of the world, a.k.a. Italy, with some seriously cheesy pizza socks. This month, we’re traveling to Australia with a brand-new design that will knock your socks off (and make you want to wear these instead).

Kangaroo Socks

No matter where you live, getting to Australia is a bit of a trek. But once you’re there, there’s so much to see and do. For starters, Australia is the largest country in Oceania and has eight states and territories: Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory. Even though it’s usually portrayed as having a perpetually warm, sunny climate in movies, Australia experiences four distinct seasons of weather—which are opposite to those in the northern hemisphere—and both a wet and a dry season in certain tropical areas. The Australian Alps even experience more snow than the Swiss Alps.

Australia is home to 25 million people. But the animals far outnumber the humans: The kangaroo population is 50 million, and three times more sheep than people live there. There are also countless other unique creatures, including koalas, wallabies, wombats, dingos, emus, Tasmanian devils, and quokkas. In honor of these beautiful animals, we’re dedicating our March sock to the most well-known marsupial down under: the kangaroo. Specifically, boxing kangaroos.

The boxing kangaroo is a common symbol in Australia. We know what you’re wondering: Do kangaroos actually box each other? And the answer is yes, they do! It’s a method of self-defense against predators. Male kangaroos also sometimes box each other to determine who will father the next little joey kangaroos. So channel your inner Aussie and slip on these boxing kangaroo socks. And don’t forget to invite your best mate to join the Say it with a Sock sock of the month club. That way, you can make sure your socks always match. See you next month for our next journey!
